How is eyelid surgery performed?
Eyelid surgery begins by making incisions which are typically located in the natural creases of the upper eyelids and just below the lashes of the lower eyelids. Working through the incisions, excess fat, skin and muscle are then removed. Transconjunctival blepharoplasty may be performed on patients who have just excess fat of the lower eyelids. For this less invasive procedure, incisions are made on the inside of the lower eyelids and excess fat is removed.

Eyelid surgery takes an average of one to three hours to perform.

Where are the incisions made for eyelid surgery?
The incisions for eyelid surgery are located in the natural creases of the upper eyelids and just below the lashes of the lower eyelids. For transconjunctival blepharoplasty, the incisions are made inside of the lower eyelids.

Are there scars after eyelid surgery?
The incisions for eyelid surgery do result in scars though they are well-concealed within the natural creases of the upper eyelids and just below the lashes of the lower eyelids. Transconjunctival blepharoplasty results in no visible scarring as the incisions are made on the inside of the lower eyelids.

There is usually some discomfort that can be expected following eyelid surgery. During the first few days, the eyelids may feel tight and sore. Medication can be prescribed to help control this.
