Pierre Robin sequence or Robin syndrome is noted at birth.  These children usually have a cleft palate and an extremely small lower jaw.  As the child grows, the jaw frequently catches up, however the cleft-palate must be repaired.  Depending upon the growth of the child, cleft-palate repair usually takes place at approximately 1 year of age.
