Is Your Cosmetic Surgeon Board Certified?
Knowing Your Surgeon Before You Go Under The Knife
Choosing a plastic surgeon is an important decision, and one that should be heavily researched. The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) has set regulations and standards for surgeons preforming cosmetic surgery. When you choose a surgeon who is certified by the ABPS you can be confident that he or she meets nationally recognized standards for education, experience, knowledge and skill – ensuring that they will provide you with the highest quality of care. Board Certification goes beyond basic medical licensure. The ABPS is the only Board approved by the American Board of Medical Specialities – the main regulating body.
Today, many plastic surgeons operate in ambulatory surgical facilities that are not owned or governed by the rules of a major hospital. Always ask your surgeon if he/she can perform the procedure that you are seeking in a hospital environment. If your doctor gives you a vague answer or says no, they are not credentialed for that procedure in a hospital, and in all liklihood have not completed a residency in Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery.
Importance Of Board Certification For Cosmetic Surgeons
Many New York State physicians are currently practicing cosmetic surgery, including dermatologists, gynecologist, internists and dentists. However, when selecting a plastic surgeon for yourself or a family member you should always ask if they are Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and if not – Stay away!
Dr. Elliot Duboys is an ABPS Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and a leader in the cosmetic surgery. He has been providing advanced procedures to patients all over the Long Island, Nassau County and Suffolk County, NY areas for over 30 years.
How Do I Know If My Surgeon Is Board Certified?
As mentioned, by no means should you ever consider cosmetic surgery with someone who is not certified by the ABPS. In order to make sure that you are in the right hands, the ABPS has made it easy to check on your doctor’s records. To do so, simply visit their site and type in the information for your surgeon to recall their records.

The Keller Funnel Method For Breast Implants
Innovative Technique For Minimal Scar Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgergical procedures . Breast enhancement is achieved by placing either a silicone or saline implant either beneath the pectorlis or on top of the pectoralis to increase size. One of the top concerns when considering breast implants is the severity and length of the resultant scar. Employing techniques that result in minimal scaring is always top priority for any good cosmetic surgeon. However, only the most skilled surgeons can truly provide minimal scar results.
The Keller Funnel Method – Making Breast Implant Surgery More Efficient
Dr. Elliot Duboys has been performing breast augmentations in the Long Island, Nassau and Suffolk County areas for over 30 years. With his experience employing the latest technology, Dr. Duboys can provide optimal results with as short an incision as possible.
The Keller Funnel Method is one way that only the most skilled plastic surgeons can achieve a minimal scar in breast implant procedures. This technique has changed silicone breast implants procedures by revolutionizing they way surgeons orient and place an implant. The design of the Funnel creates a slick surface, which permits implants to easily pass through the Funnel and into optimal position all by reducing the length of the incision.
Shorter Surgical Time
Another added benefit to the usage of the Keller Funnel is reduced surgical times, which means less time under anesthesia for patients. On average the Keller Funnel can save 10 to 20 minutes off of a standard breast augmentation.
Ideal For Reconstructive Procedures
The Keller Funnel is used for many reconstructive breast surgeries since its use allows for easier and more efficient placement of implants.

Get Your Pre-Baby Body Back with a Mommy Makeover
The term “mommy makeover” was coined in 2005 and has increased in popularity ever since. To restore your body to pre-pregnancy condition, a mommy makeover conveniently combines two or more plastic surgery procedures into one which lowers the cost and recovery time.
Pregnancy is beautiful but it does take a toll on your body. Many effects of pregnancy don’t go away with time including:
- Loose or separated abdominal muscles
- Loose skin, stretch marks and spider veins
- Weight gain due to hormones, lifestyle or unbalanced diet
- Loss of volume in breasts
Is a Mommy Makeover Right For You?
A mommy makeover may be right for you if you are 100% sure you are finished growing your family. You also should be fully recovered from pregnancy and have 2 weeks time available off from work.
It is recommended that you wait 3 to 6 months after you’re done breastfeeding before you undergo a mommy makeover.
Benefits of Choosing a Mommy Makeover Versus Several Separate Procedures
Depending on the procedures you select, combining surgeries can reduce cost by several thousand dollars. When two surgeries are combined in a mommy makeover, you are only charged one operating room fee and anesthesia fee instead of two.
The most common mommy makeover combines a breast augmentation and/or lift with a tummy tuck. When you have these two surgeries performed at one time, your recovery time can be reduced by as much as six weeks.
If cost and time savings is not enough, you should know that 68% of female body contouring patients noticed an improvement in their sex life after the procedure.
We provide mommy makeovers to women living in Long Island, Nassau County and Suffolk County areas as well as out of town and out of state. Dr. Duboys, MD typically performs these procedures conveniently in his fully certified in-office surgical suite. If you’d like to schedule a consultation to find out if you’re a candidate for a mommy makeover, please give our Huntington, NY cosmetic & reconstructive surgery office a call at 6531-423-1000.

Enhance Your Bust Line With Breast Augmentation
If you’ve been thinking about enhancing your bust size, you should know that for over 30 years, our cosmetic plastic surgeons have been providing women in the Long Island, Nassau & Suffolk County areas with state-of-the-art breast augmentation (implant) procedures and techniques.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is also referred to as breast enlargement, enhancement, breast implants, augmentation mammoplasty – or in layman terms boob job. Regardless of what you call it, this is a surgical procedure that is designed to increase the size of the breast. Enhancement involves placing a silicone or saline breast implant in front of, or more commonly behind the chest muscles to increase cup size.
Women are motivated to have their breasts augmented for a variety of reasons including:
- To increase overall size for a fuller bust line or more proportioned appearance
- To restore breasts or correct a difference in size following pregnancy
- To correct size or volume differences between the breasts
Dr. Elliot Duboys will recommend an appropriate course of treatment to satisfy your expectations following your consultation and examination.
Dr. Duboys performs all procedures including breast augmentations right here in our in-office surgical suite that is fully accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities or AAAASF. We make use of state-of-the-art equipment and anesthesia performed by highly qualified members of the anesthesia department at North Shore University Hospital and the Catholic Medical System.
When your surgery is completed, you can recover and relax until you are ready to leave. Then, after a few days, you’ll return for a complete post-operative follow-up visit. When planning for your breast augmentation, one week off is typically realistic as the majority of patients are able to return to work and most other normal activities within a few days.
Types of Breast Implants We Use
Saline Breast Implants – This type of implant has a silicone outer envelop that’s filled with saline during the procedure. To place the empty implant, a small incision is used. Saline implants have a failure rate of 10% per year and generally have to be replaced every 10 years.
Silicone Breast Implants – Silicone breast implants differ from saline implants as they come pre-filled. Therefore, a slightly larger incision is made. This type of implant has a silicone outer envelope and is filled with a cohesive silicone gel.
Placement of Breast Implants
Retromammary – The implant is placed behind the breast tissue. This location allows for the placement of a larger implant and gives significant fullness to the upper portion of the breast. Sometimes by using this location, a minimal amount of ptosis or droop can be corrected.
Retromuscular – The implant is placed beneath the pectoralis major muscle for a more natural looking breast configuration. 100% of the breast tissue is above the implant.
Duel Plane – A portion of the implant is placed beneath the muscle and a portion above the muscle. This permits elevation of the breast and may eliminate the need for a breast lift.
Following your consultation with Dr. Duboys, he will discuss your expectations and the options available to you. All details of the breast augmentation procedure will be fully explained and all your questions will be answered.
