3 Reason to Wait Until Your Twenties to Get a Boob Job
If you are in your late teens or early twenties and you want to get a boob job, you are not alone. In fact, as a way to make you look and feel sexier, boob jobs are popular amongst young girls everywhere. However, due to your body, lifestyle, and opinions changing as you get older and more mature, you might want to reconsider getting your breast enhancement surgery done until you are in your mid-to-late twenties. Read on to learn more.
Your Body Changes
If you are still in your teens and want to get a boob job, consider the fact that your body is still changing. In fact, you still might have a body that resembles more of a preteen than an adult, which means that you might not get the correct size of implant that will be suitable for your adult shaped body as you get older.
Your Lifestyle Changes
Yes you may be into things like working out a lot when you are in your late teens or early twenties, but after you graduate college and start your career, your lifestyle is likely going to change, meaning that things like working out might either take more of a precedence or might take a back seat. And because things like physical activity can make having larger sized breasts uncomfortable at times, your lifestyle will make a big impact on the size of breasts you are going to get.
Your Opinions Change
The older and more mature you get, the more you start to develop into your own person with your own opinions. And although the thought of having large perky breasts when you are 18 might sound like a good idea, your 27 year old self might want implants that are a bit smaller and more subtle.
Just like with many things in life, it’s better to wait than be sorry later on. If you are in your late teens or early twenties and are considering getting breast enhancement surgery, consider waiting until your mid-to-late twenties instead. Treat Your Child’s Cleft Lip or Palate
As a parent all you can ask for is that your child is both healthy and happy. If your child was born with a cleft lip or palate, you might think the worst and let your anxiety get the best of you. And although a cleft lip or palate is far from ideal, there are surgical procedures that we do here at Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants that can help to restore your both your child’s appearance and functionality. Read on to learn more about these procedures.
Cleft Lip Surgery
Our office recommends that cleft lip surgery be done when an infant is approximately 3 months old. During the surgical procedure an entire team will be involved including pediatricians, speech pathologists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, and more in order to ensure that your child gets the best results possible. Although a scar will be visible directly following the surgery, the scar will eventually fade and not be visible.
Cleft Palate Surgery
As a more serious condition, a cleft palate requires immediate surgery which involves a few weeks of recovery and will require medication and medical treatment. During the surgery, the opening in the roof of the mouth will be closed up by rebuilding the palate and joining the muscle together. After surgery, your infant should slowly be able to learn to eat properly. Additionally, during recovery and as your child ages, it will be recommended that they see a speech pathologist in order to help them enunciate and speak properly as their palate continues to heal and form properly.
Both cleft lip and cleft palates are birth defects that are very serious but that are also very treatable. Here at Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants we know just how important the health of your child is and treat all of our patients with the utmost precision and care. If you are pregnant and have learned that your baby will be born with a cleft lip or palate contact our office and schedule an appointment with us today!

How to Maximize Liposuction and Minimize Visceral Fat
Liposuction is a safe and effective procedure that can give you the shape you desire; the physique that has not been attainable with diet and exercise alone. While effective, studies indicate that liposuction needs follow-up in order to minimize the risk of visceral fat.
What is Visceral Fat?
Unlike the subcutaneous fatty tissue that is removed during liposuction, visceral fat is tissue that develops deeper in the abdominal cavity. Here, it is neither seen nor felt, but it is padding the space between abdominal organs. Visceral fat has been implicated as a factor in the development of Type II diabetes and in the increased risk for chronic inflammation and associated health conditions, including cardiovascular disease.
How to Protect Yourself
It is important to know that liposuction does not remove the fatty tissue that lingers deep beneath the surface. However it turns out there’s a lot you can do to tame your tummy after this procedure.
Exercise. The good news about exercise and visceral fat is that you need not kill yourself in the gym on a daily basis, or at all. To minimize abdominal fat, experts recommend 45 minutes of walking, jogging, or other aerobic activity three or more days each week.
Eating. We all know that eating processed foods and fast food can do a number on the body. Not only will such habits counteract the results of liposuction, but unhealthy food choices significantly increase the risk of visceral fat. Reach for healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, and also healthy fats found in walnuts, coconut oil, and avocados.
The two S’s
In addition to diet and exercise, two significant risks in the development of abdominal fat are sleep and stress. The stress hormone cortisol tends to naturally be higher in women. Unmanaged stress can lead to chronically high cortisol levels and a tubby tummy. Sleep is one of several ways to reduce stress, and it is necessary for complete wellness. Without adequate sleep every cell in the body is depleted of the energy necessary for optimal function. Lack of sleep has also been shown to increase hormones related to appetite. Basically, the more tired we are, the more we want to eat.
Liposuction can give you the shape you want. Healthy habits can help you keep it. For information about fat-reduction, call Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants, PC.

So Many Wrinkles, So Little Time
When do wrinkles appear?
When you reach certain age it tends to become increasingly apparent that time will keep marching on whether you want it to or not. It’s not so much that we want to stop time as that we may like to stop the aging process and the way it shows up on our skin. There are several factors that affect the elasticity and the thickness of our skin, and therefore its vulnerability to wrinkles.
Factors that affect elasticity
The sun. However much we may need vitamin D from natural sunlight, UV rays can do a number on the skin. UVA and UVB rays are some of the most prevalent wrinkle-causers known to man. This is because they break down the fibrous strands of collagen that support overlying tissues. Even more importantly, getting too much sunshine without adequate protection from broad-spectrum sunscreen can quickly put you at risk for skin cancer.
The eyes have it. The earliest signs of aging most often show up around the eyes and also around the mouth. Sometimes, it is between the brows where we noticed the signs of aging. Why? It comes down to facial movement. Every time we frown, smile, and laugh, the skin wrinkles. Over time and that good old loss of elasticity, the lines around the brow, eyes, and mouth become deeply ingrained fixtures on the face.
The Importance of Skincare at Any Age
The good news about facial aging is that there’s a lot we can do to slow its progression.
- Avoid direct sunlight at the height of intensity. This is typically between 12 PM and 4 pm.
Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 or 30 anytime you will be in the sun. Don’t just apply at once; reapply if you go in the water or if you sweat. - Apply nourishing cream and see around the eyes. Ingredients to look for include green tea, vitamin C, and pomegranate extract. These powerful antioxidants fight environmental damage that can lead to wrinkles. Other important ingredients include alpha hydroxy acid, which facilitates adequate absorption of other ingredients.
- Be gentle! Rubbing your eyes were tugging at your skin can exacerbate the problem of looseness and creases.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help. The good news about aging in today society is that we have innumerable ways to minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and just about any other problems that may occur. Our patients can benefit from both surgical and nonsurgical treatments such as brow lift, eyelid surgery, Botox, and dermal fillers.
Let us help you care for your skin. Schedule your consultation today.

Summer is Coming! Is your Skin Silky Smooth?
With summer just around the corner, something that is on the minds of millions of people is how their skin will look in shorts and bathing suits. It is important to feel confident in your appearance, and laser hair removal can facilitate this. Patients of Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants may say goodbye to unwanted hair just about anywhere on the body in just a few visits. Here, we will talk about ways to maximize your treatment experience.
3 Tips for Laser Hair Removal
-
Plan ahead.
The time to get your hair removed permanently is now, before you start tanning. Most people think that they should avoid tanning before laser hair removal because the process won’t be as effective on darker skin. This used to be the case, but modern lasers are capable of treating a wider range of skin tones. The real issue with tanning is that the skin can become irritated much more quickly during the laser treatment process, which can last several weeks. So skip the beach, the pool, and the tanning salon until after your skin is silky smooth.
-
Pamper your skin.
Laser treatments are not damaging. However, the skin can be somewhat sensitive during treatment. Prior to your first session, talk with your clinician about moisturizers that can keep your skin moisturized and nourished throughout your treatment plan.
-
Don’t pluck!
In fact, don’t thread or wax, either. The only method of hair removal that you can practice before your laser treatments is shaving. The success of laser hair removal relies on the presence of hair in the follicles. Hair absorbs the laser light as heat, and transfers this heat to the walls of the follicle. Without hair, thermal energy has no power. Your clinician may also advise you to avoid shaving the day before or day of your laser treatment.
Your skin is noticed a lot more during the summer months, by yourself and by others. Feel great about how you look, no matter what you are wearing! Contact our Huntington, NY practice about laser hair removal.

Treat Your Mom Right with a Mommy Makeover
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, you might be wondering what you can get your mom or the mother of your children for this special day. Rather than spending money on flowers and jewelry, consider giving a gift that will bring her confidence and happiness for years to come. With a mommy makeover, the special mother in your life can target the areas of their body that has changed since becoming a mother. Read on to learn more about mommy makeovers.
What is a Mommy Makeover
Being a mother is a joyous event in life that is incomparable to any other experience in life. And although it is something to celebrate, being a mother can also wreak havoc on a woman’s once taut body. From saggy breasts to loose abdominal skin, a woman’s body will never quite look the same after pregnancy.
A mommy makeover, however, can give women back their body and confidence through a combination of a few or all four surgical procedures (listed below).
What does a Mommy Makeover consist of?
The four main components of a mommy makeover procedure include:
-
Breast Augmentation
After breastfeeding, a woman’s breasts can often times look and feel deflated. In order to get the shape and natural breast texture back, many women opt to get breast augmentation surgery. This surgery involves placing a breast implant either under a woman’s existing breast muscle or over it.
-
Tummy Tuck
After all of the stretching that a woman’s stomach endures during 9 months of pregnancy, a tummy tuck procedure is one of the most ideal ways to get a woman’s body back. By removing excess skin, a tummy tuck will tighten the abdominal area and give it a more taut appearance.
-
Liposuction
It’s true, a woman’s body will never be the same again after giving birth to a baby. And areas like the abdomen and upper thighs will likely have seen better days. However, through liposuction, excess fat around the upper thighs and abdomen are scraped away in order to give off a slimmer appearance.
-
Breast Lift
Breast lifts are primarily used for women who have breastfed their infants. Although another wonderful part of motherhood, breastfeeding can deflate your breasts and cause them to appear and feel more sag than ever before. During a breast lift, however, the surgeon will lift the breast muscles and tighten any skin around the breasts in order to give off a more youthful and firmer looking appearance.

Liposculpture vs. Liposuction
When it comes to seeking out weight loss options for you and your body, you have more than likely already heard of liposuction and have maybe even given it some consideration. As one of the most popular ways to rid your body of stubborn fats, liposuction can help you target areas all around your body. Although you may have heard of liposuction, have you heard of liposculpture? By offering both procedures at our Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants office, we know that each procedure is unique and important in their own ways. Read on to learn more.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a fairly invasive plastic surgery procedure that involves making incisions into either your abdomen, upper thighs, or upper arms (common stubborn fat areas) in order to get rid of unwanted fat. Once the incision has been made, the surgeon will then be able to access the fat tissues and scrape them away. Once they have been scraped away, the surgeon will then use a vacuum device, called a cannula, to suction up all of the unwanted fat. Afterwards, your incision site will be stitched up and you will be ready for recovery.
Liposculpture
Liposculpture is a procedure that is very similar to liposuction but it is used to target smaller areas of the body including knees, neck, and smaller parts of the abdomen. During the liposculpture procedure, a small incision will be made into the skin and then a micro-cannula will be inserted in order to remove.
So what are the differences?
As you can see, there are many commonalities of both liposuction and liposculpture— the only differences really being that liposuction is used on larger areas of the body, whereas liposculpture is used to treat small areas of the body.
What is recovery like?
Recovery for both liposuction and liposculpture will require that you wear a compression style sleeve or device in order to hold your surgical site in place as it heals properly. Also, depending on the area of the body, you will likely have to wear some sort of drain for the first day after your surgery in order to drain your body of any excess fats or fluids.
To learn more about either liposuction or liposculpture, or to schedule an appointment, contact our Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants office today.
