Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Get rid of sagging breasts with Dr. Duboys in Huntington Long Island
What is a Breast Lift?
Breast Lift, or Mastopexy, is a plastic surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of sagging breasts that result from pregnancy, age, genetics or weight loss. The surgery seeks to elevate and reshape the breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning the breast tissue and nipples.
During surgery, Dr. Duboys may choose to reduce the size of the areolas if enlarged. A breast lift procedure will not enhance the overall volume of the breast and your cup-size should remain constant. If you are seeking to have your bust line enhanced, you may want to consider breast augmentation.
Am I a good candidate?
Candidates for Breast Lift surgery include women who are looking to improve the appearance of sagging breasts. It’s also important that Breast Lift candidates be in good physical health, psychologically stable, and have realistic expectations. You may be advised to postpone surgery if you are planning a future pregnancy.
Breast Lift Procedure
After careful evaluation, Dr. Duboys will discuss your options and the procedure he recommends. He may advise that surgery be postponed for those who are planning future pregnancies. The procedure can take between one and three hours to complete and is commonly performed under general anesthesia. Incisions depend upon the recommended procedure. Large, pendulous breasts require an incision shaped like an anchor, while a less extensive incision may be made for women with smaller breasts and minimal sagging. The exact nature of Breast Lift surgery will vary for each patient. In general, excess skin is removed and the nipple and areola are moved to a higher position.
Recovery after surgery
Patients will need to wear a surgical bra after surgery for a period of time. Swelling and bruising are common and some temporary numbness may also occur. Medication will be prescribed to help alleviate discomfort. Patients usually feel well enough to return to work and other normal activities within about one to two weeks after the Breast Lift. Should you desire a fuller breast, an implant may be recommended and placed simultaneously with a Mastopexy.
What other procedures can be combined with a Breast Lift?
One of life’s greatest gifts are children, however, pregnancy can wreck havoc on a woman’s body. Many women choose to have a Breast Lift (mastopexy) performed with a Tummy Tuck – this combination is frequently known as a “Mommy Makeover” and both procedures can be performed at the same time – Ask Dr. Duboys if you are a candidate for this surgery.
Where is the surgery performed?
Dr. Duboys typically performs the surgery in his fully certified in-office surgical suite. This state-of-the-art operating room is fully approved by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities a convenience that is another solid reason to trust Dr. Duboys & Associated Plastic Surgeons.
